Greenwich Parent Voice

Healthy Walks

Get out of the house, leave your worries behind and walk with us in Greenwich's green spaces.

Every month we take a group of parents and carers on a gentle ramble around Greenwich Park, one of London's most ancient and beautiful parks and right on our doorstep. Walking is easy, helps you stay fit and helps you to decompress from the stresses of caring. You'll meet other carers who understand what it's like to look after a child with a disability. There's no pressure to talk, you can just come with us and enjoy the companionship and the amazing views.

The route is gentle and step-free and suitable for all fitness levels. Bring your little ones and pushchairs as well for some outdoor exploration. The walk starts at 10am at the meeting point of Blackheath Gate on the south side of the park. We always end the walk at the Pavilion Cafe, where you may enjoy a hot drink and snack on us. We welcome dogs, and are always accompanied by Viv's very friendly labrador, who enjoys making new friends!

We took TV presenter Claire Balding and her Radio 4 program 'Ramblings' on one of our walks in 2015.  Click on here to hear the podcast.

Dates for our Greenwich Park walks this term can be found on our Diary Listing page and always run from 10am until approximately 12 noon. The walk is free to attend.

Directions: Blackheath Gate is near to the 53 bus route, get off the bus when you see the main entrance to the park and meet us just inside. For those of you travelling from Thamesmead, get the train to Maze Hill which is minutes away from the north east park entrance, just walk up inside the park to join the group.

Other healthy walks take place in locations such as Avery Hill Park, Severndroog Castle and Oxleas Woods. If you know of a lovely green space you think we'd enjoy let us know and we will bring the walk to your neighbourhood!

All dates, locations and times for our GPV Healthy Walks can be found in our diary listing page
